Solving the Fermion Flavor Problem using Renormalization Group Flow Ervin Goldfain Photonics CoE, Welch Allyn, Inc., 4619 Jordan Road, Skaneateles Falls N.Y 13153-0187 OptiSolve Consulting, 4422 Cleveland Road, Syracuse, N.Y. 13215, USA Abstract A long-standing puzzle of the current Standard Model for particle physics is that both leptons and quarks arise in replicated patterns. Our work suggests that the number of fermion flavors may be directly derived from the dynamics of Renormalization Group (RG) equations. Specifically, we argue that the number of flavors results from demanding stability of the RG flow about its fixed-point solution.

On the renormalization of the bosonized multi-flavor Schwinger model
The phase structure of the bosonized multi-flavor Schwinger model is investigated by means of the differential renormalization group (RG) method. In the limit of small fermion mass the linearized RG flow is sufficient to determine the low-energy behavior of the N flavor model, if it has been rotated by a suitable rotation in the internal space. For large fermion mass, the exact RG flow has been...

Motivated by recent theoretical approaches to high temperature superconductivity, we study dynamical mass generation in three-dimensional quantum electrodynamics !QED3" in the presence of irrelevant four-fermion quartic terms. The problem is reformulated in terms of the renormalization group flows of certain four-fermion couplings and charge, and then studied in the limit of a large number of f...

The QED renormalization is restudied by using a mass-dependent subtraction which is performed at a time-like renormalization point. The subtraction exactly respects necessary physical and mathematical requirements such as the gauge symmetry, the Lorentzinvariance and the mathematical convergence. Therefore, the renormalized results derived in the subtraction scheme are faithful and have no ambi...
